Houston Career Institute Medical Assistant Program

The Medical Assistant program at Houston Career Institute (HCI) is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed in entry-level roles within the healthcare field. The program offers hands-on training in both clinical and administrative tasks, such as preparing patients for exams, performing vital sign checks, assisting with lab procedures, and processing medical paperwork. The program also includes a 160-hour externship, providing students with real-world experience in a healthcare setting.

The program runs for 36 weeks and emphasizes a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Students learn a range of skills, including medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, therapeutic techniques, and administrative functions like medical billing and claims processing. In addition, HCI integrates training in computer proficiency and interpersonal communication, ensuring graduates are well-rounded and prepared to work in fast-paced medical environments.

Hands-on training is a core feature, with the externship providing students an opportunity to apply classroom principles in a real-world context. This experience helps bridge the gap between learning and practice, ensuring graduates are job-ready upon completion. Students are also prepared for certifications, including the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), and Nationally Certified EKG Technician (NCET) exams.

HCI offers robust job placement assistance through its Career Services Department. Students receive support with resume preparation, interview coaching, and access to career fairs. Graduates can benefit from ongoing career placement support and even free refresher courses to enhance their skills throughout their careers.
