The Medical Assistant program at the Houston Institute of Global Health (HIGH) offers students a blend of online and hands-on learning over 40 weeks. This program equips students with the skills needed to handle clinical, administrative, and patient care tasks in healthcare settings, preparing them for entry-level positions in the medical field.

The Houston Institute of Global Health’s Medical Assistant Certificate program is designed to prepare students for versatile roles in healthcare. The curriculum covers essential topics such as anatomy, pharmacology, medical law, and office management, ensuring students acquire both clinical and administrative skills. With a hybrid learning format, students complete much of the coursework online, complemented by hands-on clinical experiences at approved healthcare sites.

Students participate in three clinical competency courses, culminating in a 180-hour externship. These experiences allow them to apply classroom knowledge in real-world environments, gaining practical skills in tasks like taking vital signs, assisting with minor medical procedures, and managing patient records.
